WIll a male or female puppy get along better with a 3yr old female cat?
Q. We just moved into a big house, so my husband wants to get a dog. We have a 3yr old female torti cat that is truly the queen of the house! I am wondering, if we get a female puppy could there be competitional issues, or if a male might cause dominance issues. Does it even matter, or is the specific breed of dog more important?

A. Breed is more important than sex. Look for a breed that is known to get along with small animals or is likely to ignore them completely. A cocker spaniel or pitbull wouldn't be a wise choice ;-) I've had a german shepherd get along great with cats. If you're worried that you might get the odd one of a breed not known to chase cats, but decides to anyway...consider getting an adult dog from a shelter. Personality already formed (little to no training required) you'll know from the jump if the dog is interested in cats. Most shelters will tell you if the dog will fit nicely into your lifestyle and family (other pets included).

How do I introduce my female rat to a male?
Q. I have found an owner of a male rat in London. Should I take my female to him or the other way round. Is it enough to leave them together for the night? The next day I will exchange my female for my other female. What is the chance of one of them getting pregnant? If not how long to wait before trying again? What do I do if I end up with two many children. The other rat owner will take half of them. If this works out well I plan to set up a dating agency for rats.

A. The best way would to probably take the female to the male. I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to leave them together overnight. you may have to keep and eye on them to makesure they dont fight. when i use to breed rats i put them together in a spear cage but i always put the male in first. if it does not work the first time i would suggest leaving it about a month. If you end up with too many rat babies you could either sell them too a pet shop, or give them too someone who has a snake, sounds harsh but frozen rats can be rather expensive to buy..(Also you could give a breeding pair to a snake owner so they could breed there own snakes) Or you could give the rat babies to me i love rats!!!
